BIO
Rocio Angelica Gutierrez has been an elementary school teacher for 20 years. She received both her BA and MA in Education from Whittier College and began her teaching career at Mountain View School District in El Monte where she taught 2nd, 3rd and 5th grades. She was then offered a job to teach for the Department of Defense on a military base in Japan where she taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade Spanish Immersion. After numerous years abroad, she came home and taught 5th grade at Covina Unified School District before resigning to raise her baby boy. For the past 2 years, she has been enjoying working with homeschooled students which allows her the time to be more present for her son. Rocio strives to create a positive and rigorous learning environment through collaboration. She sees herself as both a teacher and facilitator so students can learn from her and from each other. She has great enthusiasm for teaching and creates opportunities for learning through differentiated instruction. Her vast experience in education locally and abroad have solidified her passion for teaching. In her spare time, Rocio loves spending quality time with her son, family and friends. She enjoys taking her son on field trips, going hiking, gardening, and traveling.
