Her journey lead her to teaching at UC Irvine Farm School during the years of 1975 – 1986. This was a research school studying how children learn mathematics. It was at this school where she began creating a series of hands on math booklets to teach mathematics for understanding. In 1988 – 1996 Alysia wrote curriculum for the Educator for Carter House Natural Science Museum where she also gave hands on science classes for homeschooled students and local teachers. From 1996- 2021 Alysia was a co-founder of Chrysalis Charter School in Redding; one of the first Homeschool/Classroom Hybrid Charter schools in CA. There she taught students aged 8 – 13 in all subjects but specializing in math. Alysia gained experience teaching online math classes and tutoring during the pandemic. During this time, Alysia published a series of math booklets called Patterns In Arithmetic for homeschool families to help them teach hands on math and so children could construct understanding of mathematics instead of just memorizing recipes.
