About this Coach

LESSON FEES: $55 for a 30-minute lesson $70 for a 45-minute lesson $80 for a 60-minute lesson SUBJECTS: General Science, Chemistry, Algebra COACH BIO: Michael earned a Bachelors in Science from the University of Notre Dame in 1973. He was going to do the Ph.D. program at UC Berkeley, but had an opportunity to go to Nigeria to combine philanthropic efforts and chemical research. From 1975 to 1998 he taught and carried out research in Chemistry in three of the Nigerian universities. He earned a Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry in 1981. He helped set up three small university residences outside the campuses that were dedicated to training the students in academic, character and leadership excellence. He also organized similar programs for the youth in the nearby villages with the support of the university students. In the last six years at the third university, he also coached the men’s and women’s basketball teams. He returned to the United States in 1998 and distributed his time between designing programs for character and leadership development of the youth, and teaching chemistry part-time in the community colleges and with UC Berkeley Extension. In 2012 upon the request of a friend he joined the Chemistry faculty at Coastline Community college and set up their Organic Chemistry department. He returned to the Bay Area in 2015 and continued teaching General and Organic Chemistry part-time with UC Berkeley Extension and designing and running various programs for the youth. In addition to university level chemistry, has has taught and tutored high school level chemistry, physics, and algebra. In addition to science he loves sports, music, and poetry. He quarterbacked his high school football team and was the point guard on the basketball team. At present his hobbies are soccer, poetry, composing songs and playing the guitar.

All cancellations or schedule changes must be made directly with the instructor by 6 p.m. the night before a lesson to avoid a full lesson penalty fee. Some instructors may provide you with written notification outlining a different cancellation/penalty policy. This policy will supersede Home School Coaches’ policy.
